What is Permaculture?

Celebrating Outdoor Spaces

The word Permaculture was coined in the 1970s by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren. Permaculture derives from the two words: Permanent and Culture. Permaculture is defined, by Bill Mollison, as "the conscious design and maintenance of productive ecosystems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way."​ 


Bill Mollison continues describing "The philosophy behind permaculture as one of working with, rather than against, nature; of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless action; of looking at systems in all their functions, rather than asking only one yield of them; and of allowing systems to demonstrate their own evolution."

NativeJax is a permaculture design and real estate company that specializes in designing ecological landscapes that create abundance and resilience.


At NativeJax, we believe that our job is part of a holistic process. A creative relationship between client, landscaper, and landscape. With an eye for detail and a passion for hard work, we work together with our clients to ensure that every aspect of their desire for their outdoor space comes to life.

As a premier Florida permaculture design and retail service, we specialize in lush, green spaces that are enjoyed by all. Our expert team is like a family, each bringing their unique skills into what they do. From residential to commercial spaces, we approach each project with love and care.

NativeJax assists clients in finding and designing appropriate properties to meet their needs.  Once these one-of-a-kind properties are developed and the owner needs to move on NativeJax specializes in selling these properties to other like-minded individuals who will care for and continue on the work of the previous owner.

JOSHUA ROSENBERG

Joshua is the founder, designer, and broker of NativeJax Permaculture Design and Real Estate. Joshua is a proud Jacksonville native, University of North Florida graduate, and permaculture globe trotter.

Joshua has over 5 years of real estate experience working with some of the top brokerages in town. Joshua was named Newcomer of the Year in 2017 by the North East Florida Realtor Association (NEFAR). Joshua is also a graduate of the prestigious NFAR Leadership Academy where he learned how to be a community leader and run a successful business. Joshua has gone on to head many councils and networks within NEFAR. Joshua is held in high esteem by his colleagues and customers.

Joshua has traveled around the world learning from some of the best permaculture designers in practice today. He is a graduate of Geoff Lawton's year-long permaculture design course and permaculture in action course. Joshua has learned hands-on from Geoff Lawton on his farm in Australia, Zaytuna farm. Joshua's passion and knowledge for permaculture have only grown since his time in Australia, Since then Joshua has recently toured the Pacific coast of Costa Rica gaining valuable insight from multiple permaculture projects. 

Joshua believes in continuous education and is currently planning another trip to Australia to learn from the grandmaster himself, David Holmgren.

Joshua has dedicated NativeJax to the improvement of the environment we live in, one yard, rooftop, and garden at a time by using the most natural, simple, and effective methods to create the highest return on investment.
